Meet Gracie!
This heart capturing Therapy K-9, is the newest addition to our practice. As of the end of March she is 10 mo. old and already doing God's work of bringing comfort and calmness to adults and children who have been traumatized, suffering from PTSD, Grieving loss, anxiety, depression, the terminally ill, hospice patients, adults living with advanced stage Dementias and more.
Gracie is a Dachshund/Catahoolah Leopard mix. Catahoolah Leopard dogs were named after the Catahoolah Parish in LA and is their official State Dog. The Dachshund side will keep her to a portable 24-25 lb. size unlike the Catahoolah side which grows to between 80-95 lb-which is not very portable (even with the handle on her harness LOL!!!) Rev. is sure that Gracie definitely has some "Cat" in her because she is always grooming herself.
Gracie has a gentle, quiet demeanor and while she is a little shy at first, she quickly warms up to people who pet her and other animals. Laying patiently in the laps of nursing home residents in Memory Care or by the side of an anxious, bedbound Hospice patient, they feel Gracie's unconditional love and it is amazing to watch the chemistry and the miracle happen when Gracie's presence calms the anxious, relaxes the restless, and fills every life she touches with pure joy and a sense of peace .
Gracie and Rev. are currently enrolled in a K-9 Master Class for Service Dogs. We train every day so that she will be well-disciplined and well-prepared to enter training for her official Certified Therapy Dog status. The training differs in that Service Dogs are Do Not Pet when working, while Therapy Dogs are PLEASE Pet Me anytime. Rev. takes her wherever she goes since she needs to be socialized and comfortable with many people who can't resist petting her. Rev. and her main kick Gracie are ready to help children, teens, and adults find healing and love.
Interestingly Dog spelled backwards is God and a dog's unconditional love certainly reflects the unconditional love God has for all people no matter who they are. Request an appointment with Gracie and Rev. today. Just fill out the contact page and we can schedule an in-home visit if you are in the 7 Greater Chicagoland Counties. We also offer online and Tele-health Counseling.
